It’s been a while in the coming but WordPress 3.0 is now here and it is packed with big changes.
The biggest change is the merging of WordPress and WordPress-MU, the multi-site version of WordPress. Merging the two means that all WordPress users can now setup and manage multiple blogs from one installation. The downloads for WordPress and WordPress-MU will now be from the same site.
WordPress also sports a new default theme called Twenty Ten and a number fo new APIs for theme developers. The new APIs make it easier for developers to install custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks and menus.
Some of the changes also give users greater control over content through custom post types and taxonomies. These are cool features that make WordPress even more powerful as a content management system.
Management is also improved and admins can now bulk-update plugins (excellent!).
