Was 2015 the Year When Open Source Software Finally Won?
78 percent of companies report using open source software.
Non-Linux FOSS: Open-Source Windows?
The best way I can think to describe it is to imagine if Wine evolved into an entire operating system that booted on hardware instead of running inside Linux. It’s not ready for prime time (and the developers make that very clear—it’s alpha software), but it’s worth checking out. Since it’s early in the development process, if you get involved now, you can have a say in what compatibilities get priority.
Arch Wins First of Two Round Poll
The voting is over in the first round of our annual GNU/Linux distro poll, which sought an answer to the simple question, “What Linux distro do you currently use most?” The result was a complete surprise, at least to us. But this was just round one of a two part polling process, and the round two poll is already up and running.

The guys over Unvanquished, a free and open-source FPS (first-person shooter) game for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, have just returned from their winter holidays and released the first Alpha build for 2016. Nvidia Uses Ubuntu at CES 2016 to Show Nvidia DriveWorks
At CES 2016 Nvidia announced some really interesting new hardware aimed at autonomous cars, along with NVIDIA DriveWorks, and they seem to have used Ubuntu for the demo. The fact that Nvidia shows upcoming technology running on a Linux distribution, in this case, Ubuntu, at CES 2016 shows just how much things have evolved for the open source operating system.

WorkMail GA: Amazon Cloud-Based Email and Calendar Ready for Prime Time
WorkMail, the cloud-based email and calendar platform that constitutes Amazon’s answer to Microsoft Exchange and Google Apps, has entered general availability, with new features to boot. WorkMail does not provide all of the features of Google and Microsoft’s cloud-based apps — there’s no word processor, for example — but it competes in the most important categories.

Not a typo: Microsoft is offering a Linux certification
Believe it or not, Microsoft is offering a Linux on its Azure cloud certification. Right after Microsoft releasing MS-Linux, a few years ago I would have said the next most unlikely thing for Microsoft to do would be to offer a Linux certification. Guess what? GNU.org Website Says Microsoft’s Software Is Malware
Both Amazon and Apple are on the same boat GNU.org has a category on its website named “Philosophy of the GNU Project,” where the Microsoft software is described as malware, along with Apple and Amazon. It’s not all that clear why these statements exist on the GNU.org website, even if it’s powered by FSF (Free Software Foundation). Moreover, all of … Read More
