Today, November 16, 2016, Canonical was pleased to announce the availability of a Public Preview of Microsoft’s SQL server for the popular Ubuntu Linux operating system.
In May this year, we reported on Microsoft’s upcoming plans to bring its SQL Server to the Linux platform, providing developers and organizations with freedom of choice for both cloud and local infrastructures when it comes to implementing a powerful database server. And now, it looks like Canonical prepared a public preview of SQL Server on Linux, allowing Ubuntu users to get familiar with it.
“With the next version of SQL Server, Microsoft brings the power of SQL Server on Linux and Windows including support for Docker containers,” said Canonical in the press announcement. “Moreover, with SQL Server on Ubuntu, there are significant cost savings, performance improvements, and the ability to scale & deploy additional storage and compute resources easier without adding more hardware.”
